Grass House - 2012
The concept for this project preceded Hammock House, which is based on a similar idea. The intention was to align the hammock with the ground level by digging a suitably deep hollow beneath it. This simple intervention radically alters the perception of the person resting within — the sense of carefree leisure is replaced by a feeling of immersion, even unease, as the body seems to lie within a grave-like cavity. Passersby, in turn, may be startled by the hidden void beneath their feet.
The hollow may take the form of a raw, muddy pit or — in a more refined version — a chamber lined with grass that blends seamlessly with the surrounding surface. The installation’s crucial component consists of specially designed anchors, driven 40 cm into the ground to ensure a stable and secure suspension of the hammock. The work was realized in the Wilda district of Poznań at the invitation of the Outer Spaces street art festival.
